Just Post a Comment here to be added
Sadly, this journal has moved into the "friends-only" realm. I know the disappointment that usually comes with seeing this sort of message, so let me stress that you just need to comment here if you'd like to be added and I'll most likely add you. Don't be nervous. Just do it. (Am I allowed to say that phrase without giving a credit to Nike?!?)

(Hrm - point FAIL. I didn't mean for my current friends to be bothered with this entry, but back-dating didn't help, did it? I've changed another option, let's see if that helps. Anyways - if you're someone who has been able to see my posts up until now, you'll continue to see them without having to comment.

    Advertise the fly way
I was listening to this Saturday's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! when I heard about some company who attached little advertisement banners to flies and set them loose at a convention.

    They attached banners.
    To flies.
    To their tiny little legs.

    Genius.

I need to know how they managed to get the banners on the flies. There are flies in the office that I'm currently working in and they drive me crazy. I've been on a killing spree, but if I could attach messages to them, the entertainment factor would sooth my murderous instincts.

You can read the story on Wired UK or, if you just want to see the video, it's embedded behind the cut. )

    TDP @ 9:30 Club - Saturday (July 18th)
Most folks who are interested have seen this on other blogs or on the mailing list, but just in case...

On Saturday night, we'll be in DC at the 9:30 Club. The Dreamscapes Project is going to be playing with Emmet Swimming. The show is actually fairly early - doors open at 6, TDP plays at 6:50, Emmet Swimming plays around 8:00 or so, and everyone will be out of there by 10.

If you'd like to go, please grab tickets HERE. Tickets are $15.

If you'd like to go but don't have the budget for it, send me an email (vampymaus AT gmail) - I know someone with some extra tickets that can be repurposed for this situation. :)

TDP @ The State Theatre - June 19th

The Dreamscapes Project will be playing at The State Theatre (Falls Church, VA) on Friday, June 19th. For those that like to see the boys in a rock venue, this is probably one of the better places to see them. (Stage, dance floor, tables.) This is also one of their big shows and we're hoping to draw a good audience to enjoy the night.

The show starts at 9pm. Once we know exactly what time the guys will be playing, I'll let you know. Tickets are $11 if you buy them in advance (which is really helpful to the band as well). If you buy them on the day of the show, they'll be $13. (I'll be there!)

    Order Tickets Here.

They'll be playing with three other bands, so this is also a good time to check out some other local talent.

    NUMA
Jeff Say of the Culpeper Star Exponent: "NUMA combines classic hard rock with a melodic touch, making their sound fresh and familiar at the same time." I hear a dose of today's heavy rock tossed into their style as well.

    The Dead End Dropouts
From their site: "The Dead End Dropouts is a three-piece Alternative Rock/Pop-Punk band consisting of, guitarist/vocalist Eddy D., bass player/vocalist Geordie, and drummer Manuel H...a unique blend of old school Punk, and today's quickly emerging Pop-Punk."

    Chainsaw Baby
They are a band that debuted in May. I haven't quiet figured out what kind of music they play, but according to their myspace comments, they rock. Polka can rock, but I am guessing they aren't a polka band. Maybe Hard-Core-Heavy-Metal-Polka? I'm up for a surprise. :)

Note: You must be 18 or older to attend.

Presidential March and History Books You've Read
I'm pathetic when it comes to the history of our Nation. To begin to turn my tide of ignorance, I'm thinking about reading a biography of each President, starting with Washington and moving forward. The hardest part of this will be choosing which book to read for each one. I think I'm looking for biographies that will cover each President's life, from childhood through presidency to death, but really, I'm not too picky, so we'll see what I find.

I know a bunch of you love books and some of you are even history buffs. What books have you read about history that you've enjoyed? (Not just Presidential or American. Any historical topic.) Or hey, what historical books have you read that you DIDN'T enjoy?

    Ninjas Versus Zombies
Woot! For those of us who missed the chance to see this movie before, Ninjas Versus Zombies will be playing again *and* DVD sales will occur for a short amount of time. (The trailer plays when you go to the website, so make sure you're in an appropriate place. Zombies aren't appropriate for some work places, like pre-schools. Unless you like scaring little kids...but they don't generally let you work at a pre-school if you admit to something like that. I know this.)

    Screenings
05/22/09 (Baltimore, MD) - NVZ will be the Midnight Film at Balticon. If you're going to be there, head to the Garden Room to catch the show!

05/24/09 (Leesburg, VA) - The Tally Ho Theatre will be showing the movie at 11pm on Sunday night. Catch this showing and you can feel a little creeped out as you see the theatre you're sitting in featured in the film. ($5.00)

    The press release reads:
After strong showings at film festivals and strong advance reviews, Endlight Entertainment and the Tally Ho are proud to present the finalcut of "NINJAS VS ZOMBIES".

This Action-Horror Comedy filmed entirely in the Northern VA area has been called "possibly the next cult classic" by reviewers, who laud: "this movie does precisely what it sets out to do.. entertain".  Now with all-new effects, a new sound mix, and a new edit, NINJAS VS ZOMBIES features Magic, Swordplay, Undead Mayhem, Belly Laughs, Beautiful Women, and even the Tally Ho itself as the site for the final showdown    -   UNRATED (Violence, Brief Nudity, Adult Language)   89 minutes. $5

(If you saw it the last time, this is the Final Cut, which means the edit, mix, resolution, etc are all a bit different from the original screening. You can see how your support helped it evolve.)

    DVD Sales
The screenings are pre-release events, so the DVDs will be sold at the screenings for $10. I'm not sure what will happen to the price (or availibility) after that. If you can't make it but want a copy of the DVD, let me know. (The DVD features include trailers and a commentary track.)

For those that know him, Dan Guy (Ben-the-Cellist's brother) has a lead in the movie - extra cool.

    Paperless Mobile Check-in
I've owed someone this post for almost a month now. I just found out that she spent this past weekend crying her eyes out over my lack of information-sharing, which has prompted me to do my duty. :P

(My brain isn't in the mood to be eloquent, so you get to have raw word sewage.)

The TSA is trying to jump in on the boom in mobile tech and has decided to try sending boarding passes to mobile phones. instead of handing over a paper ticket, the traveler bring up their mobile ticket and swipes their phone over a scanner at the security line as well as at the boarding gate.

Since only certain airlines are offering this service currently (and only certain airports are set-up to use this system), I wasn't able to try it out when I first read about it. Luckily, a recent Delta flight out of Minneapolis/St. Paul was a candidate for this service and I decided to give it a whirl.

On the Delta site, I requested that my boarding pass be sent to my phone. I don't have an I'm-So-Cool-And-Hip-And-Fancy i-Phone, but I do have a phone that can receive pictures, so they sent me an image file which I saved in my photo album. The better phones get a file (or actively pull an image from a site online) that has a bar-code square along with flight/seat information. My image file only seemed to have the bar-code square in it. It would have been nice to have the other info, but it wasn't a big deal. (I always check the departure boards anyways...and I remembered my seat number). Hopefully, this will be tweaked in the future.

My Experience - behind this cut )

I'll definitely be using this whenever it's available. :)

    Oh Wolfie
(That's weird - my original posting of this was somehow set to Private. Meh.)

Luckily, only the folks on Twitter are being bothered with most of my stupid remarks on Wolfram|Alpha, but I just had to put up one post to point out that, beyond math, physics, music, chem, geography, and other science geekery, W|A can deliver the answer to life as well a response to the question of how many roads a man must walk down.

Wolfram|Alpha: Not just for geeks. Also for dorks.

    Current Mood: dorky
